SENSEWEAR

SenseWear is an AR focus ecosystem consisting smart safety vest and mobile app that keeps individuals safe within warehouse environments.

Title

Overview

As a team consisting of Isabel Li, Duoning Zheng, Mingshan Wang, and myself, we were tasked with creating a mixed reality object. We landed on the idea of a mixed reality personal protective equipment (PPE) vest for use in warehouse environments. This innovative PPE vest uses a combination of smart vests, AR helmet, and a mobile app to provide real-time warnings of potential dangers and predicted target destinations. Our goal is to make warehouses safer and more efficient for all those who work within them.

What I did

  • Conducted research on Warehouses and its safety
  • Prototyped multiple concepts and iterations in Unity
  • Assembled the ESP36 and built the connection to Unity
  • Ideated and Diagrammed the ecosystem
  • Designed the website for case study

Unity Demo

We have developed a prototype utilizing Unity, which integrates with the vest to activate haptic feedback in response to detected potential collisions. While this is a new challenge for my team and I, as we are tackling a large project with multiple functional components in Unity, we are confident in our ability to continue to refine the prototype and resolve any bugs.

Product Website

The product website represents a collaborative effort between my team, with my contributions in the design, Duoning's contributions in the branding, Mingshan's contributions in the content, and Isabel's efforts in the build. Our objective was to bring the product to life by demonstrating its features through a compelling storytelling approach.

Learning Points

01 . Identifying and defining the context

02. Prototyping as a method of exploration

03. Ensuring Scalability and Versatility of Code

04. Designing for humans and not for science fiction

" Within this project, Lucas used rigorous technology centered research to discover how mixed reality technologies will enable the future tracking of everything and then distilled her insights into a well-considered user experience and visual language that clearly speaks to the intended user. "

Siladityaa Sharma, Adjust Professor and Product Designer of Meta Reality Labs

Future Improvements

  • Finding workarounds to prototype with while debugging
  • Testing the full experience as soon as possible
  • Managing expectations in relation to time constraint.
